BATTLE OF BRITAIN, LONDON MONUMENT New memorial, on the Thames, erected to memorialize "The Few", the airmen of the Battle of Britain.

THE CENOTAPH National war memorial, recognizing the sacrifice of the "Glorious Dead" of WWI and WWII. Site of annual Remembrance Day ceremonies.

CHURCHILL MUSEUM & CABINET WAR ROOMS Churchill's underground headquarters during WWII, largely intact with original maps, phones, sleeping quarters, etc. Also includes the museum of Churchill's life. Charge.

CHURCHILL'S BRITAIN AT WAR EXPERIENCE Fascinating recreation of facets of British life in London during WWII. View scores of artifacts and clothes and sit in an actual air raid shelter. Realistic atmosphere and great for all ages. Charge.

EISENHOWER'S HEADQUARTERS Building now used by the U.S. Navy was home to General Eisenhower during WWII.

FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT MEMORIAL Bronze statue erected in 1948, with money donated entirely by the British people.

HMS BELFAST Famous warship that participated in Normandy landing is now a floating museum. It is Europe's last remaining WWII cruiser and has numerous exhibits and displays that are interesting for all ages. Charge.

IMPERIAL WAR MUSEUM Award-winning museum that traces the history of British military operations since 1914. Features full-scale reproductions, military artifacts and weaponry from WWI and WWII. Holocaust Exhibition and Children at War exhibit are must-sees. Free.

NATIONAL ARMY MUSEUM This museum traces the history of the British Army from Agincourt to the present. Thousands of artifacts from all wars, including the American Revolution, in categories such as armor, vehicles, medals, uniforms, etc. Life-sized models are found alongside videos and computer games. Great for kids, too. Free.

RAF MEMORIAL Monument commemorating the sacrifice by servicemen of the RAF during WWI, 1914-1918.

ST. CLEMENT DANES Originally built in the 9th century as a Danish church. Presently houses Book of Remembrance, listing names of US servicemen killed during WWII in Britain.

ST. MARTIN-IN-THE-FIELDS Location of the memorial to the Far Eastern Prisoners in the Second World War and, in particular, the infamous "Railway of Death" in Thailand.

ST. MARY-LE-BOW Church bells famously used as the BBC wartime recognition symbol. The Archbishop of Canterbury's Court has met here since the 12th century.

ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL The famous cathedral is also home to the American Memorial Chapel and the Roll of Honor. This poignant book lists the names of 28,000 U.S. servicemen and women who were based in Britain and died during the war.

VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM Exterior walls of this famous museum still show the extensive and unrepaired bomb damage from WWII.

WESTMINSTER ABBEY The world famous Abbey also contains the Royal Air Force Chapel and its book of remembrance. The 1,497 airmen who lost their lives during the Battle of Britain are listed here.
