A listing of the more famous parks and gardens within London:

BATTERSEA PARK Victorian park, completely renovated in 2003, featuring a lake with boating, nature trails, the Pump House Art Gallery, a Japanese peace memorial and excellent children's zoo (charge).

GREEN PARK Peaceful 47-acre park and a former hunting ground for Charles II. Features grasslands, beautiful mature trees and memorials to servicemen of the Empire.

HOLLAND PARK Romantic and intimate park, opened in 1952 on the grounds of Holland House. Abundant wildlife, open-air theater, Japanese gardens, café, and an adventure playground are all offered for the visitors' enjoyment.

HYDE PARK Adjacent to Kensington Gardens and especially famous for "Speaker's Corner" where, on a Sunday afternoon , anyone is free to get on their soapbox. Among the attractions in this Royal Park are horseback riding, swimming, and a touching fountain dedicated to Princess Diana.

KENSINGTON GARDENS First laid out as the royal grounds of Kensington Palace, the former home of Princess Diana and Princess Margaret. Children especially, are drawn to the duck pond, the playground, and the many visible connections to Peter Pan.

REGENT'S PARK Home to both The London Zoo and Queen Mary's Gardens, a 17 acre fragrance extravaganza. This park also has a lake, children's play area, and tennis courts.

ST. JAMES PARK The oldest Royal Park in London and the setting for many ceremonial parades. Large, central lake and bounded by palaces on 3 sides. Features children's playground, café, and wildlife attractions.
