Buckingham Palace

Here is a partial example of what I might plan for a typical morning:

DAY 1:  TUESDAY, APRIL 5:  Departure time from hotel 9:00-9:30 a.m.

You may not be aware of this, but your hotel, The Lime Tree, is located conveniently within walking distance to Buckingham Palace. This is where you will begin your sightseeing for today. As you exit your hotel on Ebury St., turn left and head toward Eccleston St. where you will turn right. Continue down Eccleston St. until you reach Buckingham Palace Road. You will walk past the Royal Mews (where the Queen's horses and vehicles are kept) and the Queen's Gallery (her art collection). It is possible to tour these two places if they appeal to you, and if you are not particularly interested in catching the Changing of The Guard ceremony at 11:30 in front of the Palace. You might consider visiting on another day or later in the day, if time allows. Pricing and admission times are as follows:

Queen's Gallery (only): £7.50   Open 10:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Last admission 4:30 p.m.
Royal Mews (only): £6.00   Open 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Queen's Gallery including
the Royal Mews:
£11.50

Continue on a short distance further and you will approach the Palace on its right side. Proceed to the front of the Palace and join the building crowd! Get as close to the gates as possible to view the Palace. You will know if the Queen is in residence if the Royal Standard is flying, not just the Union Jack. The Royal Standard is red, yellow, and blue. A great vantage point for views and photos is actually ON the huge Queen Victoria Monument, directly in front of the Palace. Huge crowds are customary for the Changing of The Guard ceremony at 11:30.

When you are ready, proceed to the other side of the Palace from which you arrived, and turn...
